Engineering : Most OVERRATED Job
I keep on hearing people go on about how engineering is so "hard", some even say its harder than becoming a doctor, dentist or pharmacist. LOL what kind of crap is that?? Even prehealth classes probably trump the hardest of engineering classes, not to mention the professional coursework. So you take an undergrad diff eq class and some how its tougher than a med school class?? LOOL

Re: Engineering : Most OVERRATED Job
I dunno, premed take tight workloads, but I feel some engineering classes are harder.

Re: Engineering : Most OVERRATED Job
Pharmacists make more money than engineers.
Guess why.

Re: Engineering : Most OVERRATED Job
prehealth students have to take physics too, and the curve is way worse when everyone needs an A in the prereq classes.
and find me an engineering test as hard as this
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USMLE_Step_1
and i doubt a guy with a Ph.D in engineering can compare much to someone like a cardiac surgeon
because its more competitive and every 8th person can do engineering?

Depends on which type of engineer.
Aerospace, most likely not. Civil, most likely so.

Average pharmacist salary is 100k and the average petroleum engineer (highest paying engineering degree) is like 90k
Engineers sit at home playing around with math problems while health professionals are saving their lives

Re: Engineering : Most OVERRATED Job
Pretty much, it's self explanatory.
As a matter of fact a few weeks ago someone on college confidential was complaining about why engineers make much less than Pharmacists lol.

Those people are idiots lol
There are way more engineers than pharmacists in this country, that alone should answer the question. Engineers kid themselves when they think engineering is harder than medicine or even pharmacy.
Engineers are having trouble looking for work and keeping jobs too because there are so many of them.
Besides my cousin is an engineer and that kid doesn't know crap lol

Yeah. I can't see myself as ever being an engineer...at all.

Re: Engineering : Most OVERRATED Job
this is coming from the one who cries every time he sees a physics question
engineers are UNDERRATED.. especially here in the UK. Most of them end up quitting their jobs & going into teaching coz of low salaries n stuff... the Arab gulf countries give them the respect they deserve tho..
also maths is the purest of all subjects Sayf, u can't have chem/ bio without maths so u can't have med/pharm without maths either..

I have no clue why everyone wants to be one *eyeroll*

Re: Engineering : Most OVERRATED Job
...Different. I'm not saying it's bad, but a majority of the population wants to be one.
If we're all one, then who'll do the other jobs? Money is the source of all inner evial.

8th grade math.
Probably stats is the only one further down the line.
Anyways this argument or w/e is nonsense. This is like comparing apples to oranges.

Re: Engineering : Most OVERRATED Job
Tons of Aero engineers earn 105-115k (or they did in 2009, I don't know about it now).
Without engineers, you wouldn't even have a house, fool.
If I didn't join the armed forces, I was considering becoming an Aero Eng... there aren't enough of them currently. Some engineering careers are overrated, like Auto and Marine, but many others are underrated... there are too many types to just say something like "Engineers are overrated".
Try designing a stealth aircraft from scratch, or something like the Eiffel Tower. That sounds a lot harder than playing around with medicine in a whitewashed room all day.
