    Stuttering... Empty Stuttering...

Post by Ahmed Fri Jun 05, 2009 8:11 pm

Today while doing a English presentation...I messed up while talking.

    I messed up in:

I was supposed to say "...Gatsby loves Daisy..."
    I said "...Nick loves Daisy..."

My partner fixed me, but when I said it again I said "...Nick loves Gatsby..." , this obviously made the class laugh and embarrassed me. So my partner took over my part.

Later when it was my turn to talk I said

"Curious to ask answers"..instead of "questions"

Why do people stutter or mess up like this?

And how could I treat this?

P.S.: I hate messing up like that.

Personally I think stuttering comes from a lack of certainty in what your saying mixed with being nervous.
Experiments have proven people don't stutter when they sing songs they know, which is how I reached the above conclusion.

    Prescribed treatment: Confidence.

    How do I get confidence?

P.S.: I was actually ready for speaking and I thought I was confident...but its true that I wasn't ready in what to exactly say, I was talking at the spot.

well confidence is really just being able react well to a wide spectrum of situations, it might help you if you practice speaking to groups of people like you did for your talk, if you tackle that beast and win you will be able to give those sorts of talks without stuttering so much and you will be more confident about it.

    Success builds success.

Well 2 years ago I gave a speech to 50 times the amount that I spoke to today. IT was for my 8th grade graduation and I had to give a speech. I said the speech clearly and quite well...no stuttering.

So what's wrong with me? Sad

no I don't think so. Some people develop a stutter but if you worry about it then its more likely to happen.

2 months ago, I remember in History class...

    I completely stopped talking

I was talking "Blah, blah, blah,...."

I noticed that the more I talked, the more I physically was shaking. And all of a sudden I stopped talking in front of the class and took a deep breath and continued.

This didn't happen today to me though.
