He does have respect. He is not cheering for the 911 attacks nor denying it. Rather he is saying that the US governement is using it to do terrorism of its own around the world.

any why should we change everything? that's not how we got to where we are today! if anything we need to reassert ourselves on old traditions and rebuild from there.

No. You got to where you were by changing. For example, industrialization. Progression is what keeps a country modern. Holding yourself back in the past or present lets other countries leapfrog you and drag you from out of the competition.
