My brain is about to explode

I was playing the pokemon game emerald this morning and in an ocean museum that's in the game it said:

"The ocean has many sodium and chlorine ions..."

Are they stupid? The name of the element is chlorine. But the name of the chlorine ion is "chloride"

Sorry this just annoyed me....I thank my chem teacher,mailman, for making me a bigger nerd
