I don't know why, but the manufacturing and distribution of pharmaceuticals sounds a bit easier.

Like I said, my gut feeling just thinks it's easier. You don't have to trust it, in fact it's better if you don't.

Both are so general and broad that you may as well pick one or the other and you most likely will end up doing the same thing: optimizing some kind of solution concentration

It's not as broad as you think. Medicinal Chem is more about pharmacology (innovating/discovering new drugs).
