You must either be a girl or 10 years old to carry a 30 pound back pack.
I either go to my college with a pen or a laptop. In High School my bag had a notebook and a folder.

Not sure if my backpack weighs that much now, but I usually have some notebooks, some pens/pencils, my laptop, calculator, PS Vita, poncho and my lunch in it.

Textbooks make great weight training materials, but they are not good for much else.

Get e-textbooks on a laptop, tablet or smartphone. Try to torrent them (Not advised) or find a friend that has them (That happened to me last semester).
