its probably cause they realize theres not enough people so they leave. maybe we should make a lot of fake members and post a lot then delete after we get about 20 members?

Bad idea, people dont like everyone being the same in their first topic (people getting their first oppinion of us) we just have to be warm, welcoming, individual, smart and funny.. if thats possible
although really people need a reason to come back if you recruit someone and hjust tell them to say hi, they will do that and most times not really care about coming back, if you get them to be involved in a large discussion, or something they're passionate about
