Jokes aside, they actually did exist at one point in history. They were founded by Adam Weishaupt, a professor of law and they had humanist aims with the ultimate goal of abolishing every kind of dogma on the planet. They were influenced by masonic ideals and much of their symbolism has been passed down to masonic lodges, many of whose branches are said to covertly have the same aims as the now defunct illuminati.
They also propose a deist concept of God.
