Security in the US
Hello all!
So recently in the US there ave been protests against economic inequality and other similar (mainly socialist) causes.
If these protests get to be violent or pose a security threat, the U.S. or local cities might declare martial law. They might also start analyzing civilian communications (if they haven't been already).
So what do you guys think would be the best algorithm to use for email/IM/other forms of communication?
Fb and Google use RC4_128, SHA1_128 and sometimes RSA_128 for standard communications; all of which have been known to be attacked successfully with sufficient computing power (a gaming computer or two)
of course a subpoena changes everything
should we just stop using Fb and use a forum (better yet, a forum in a secure place like the tor network)

You aren't safe. The best thing you could do is encrypt all your information, but as long as you use a public domain, or anything run by those influenced by the government, they can tell everything that you're doing. Your best bet is to anonymize yourself as much as possibly using VPN's, TOR, offshore ISPs, etc.

Re: Security in the US
Yeah guys we're so much safer when we just use unindexed forums.
See, the problem with the tor network and "deepweb" is that the government has just as much power in that as it has on this forum or newt gingrich. It can do what it wants.

Re: Security in the US
If a forum isn't indexed, how would anyone find data or posts in it? That would be much more secure cause it makes it harder t olook through posts

Tor is just a program that lets you look through unindexed webpages.classical_algebra wrote:If a forum isn't indexed, how would anyone find data or posts in it? That would be much more secure cause it makes it harder t olook through posts

Re: Security in the US
No. You don't understand what Tor does. Tor is a program that connects all the computers on it. Some people are beginner nodes, some are connector nodes, others are linking nodes. You start at the beginner, then you go through linking nodes, then connecting nodes. This use allows you to connect anywhere through the IP address of the connector node. It anonymity your connection and uses other linking nodes to make it impossible, or at least very difficult to find. So far, even the creators of Tor could not find you.See, the problem with the tor network and "deepweb" is that the government has just as much power in that as it has on this forum or newt gingrich. It can do what it wants
AKA, you're wrong.

I do understand. I just don't understand why you can't use proxies if you are merely trying to be anon.

Re: Security in the US
Because proxies are operated by people and whoever operates them can see whatever YOU are doing and steal all of your information. Also, if they are in the US, they can be subpoenaed and it won't matter.

The proxy add-on isn't a proxy server. It simply allows configuration of proxies

In other words, it replaces your IP with about 3 others.Dark Flame99966 wrote:No. You don't understand what Tor does. Tor is a program that connects all the computers on it. When you log on to the tor network, your ip is added to the list and other people will end up covering their ip with yours.
If tor can't be traced, explain why people still use proxies while on sites like HiddenWiki and AnonIB

Naw it's not gonna happen.
If the government can't figure out why they should be able to shut down ThePirateBay then there's no way they'll stop us from communicating on the internet.

Fang: How Tor works: https://www.torproject.org/images/htw2.png
Yes, you can break anonymity though a specific exploit, but as I said, Tor has the best anonymity with VPN's at the moment.
