basically the cataphract is the earlier form of the knight

they usually had armored horses unlike most knights, but knights had plate mail and are from a later time period ... weapons were basically the same too ... except that obviously knights would have more "up to date" gear appearing later than the cataphract ..

cataphract tanks it and fires a flaming arrow at the knights unprotected horse, killing it and then charges and makes pudding out of the fallen knight
