Help me choose a laptop-New specs

It seems that for this year they got slightly different laptop esp. for edge)

LENOVO THINKPAD EDGE E420S

• Intel Core i3-2310M

How the heck is the Intel core i3 released AFTER the i5?

I'd go with the Lenovo T420. Faster processor, microphone, VOIP, noise suppressor, and only at the cost of 0.16 more pounds.

I'm not really a computerologist, so I can't make sense of the graphs, but since the i3 is the low-end processor and the i7 is the high-end processor, I'll presume the i5 isn't as fast as the i7 but faster than the i3...

The Core i3 was intended to be the new low end of the performance processor line from Intel

It's newer, yes, but it's most likely slower.

Core i3 and i5 came out at the same time but that's an Intel brand, it depends which kind. i7 has an extreme 720 I believe which is one of the best, this one may or may not be better, but chances are, the i5 will be better.
