    How are you supposed to defeat them? Is it impossible?

    Especially since in the game the Byzantines have infantry that use them, and not just on boats.

    elephants probably work

    elephant charge is the cheapest attack in the game lol ... i used 2 elephant units in custom battle against the popes best heavies cavalry (4 or 5 units of them) and the papal cavalry was decimated ...
