St. John's gives all its students laptops.

I will have a choice between a Lenovo ThinkPad T410, a Lenovo ThinkPad Edge or an Apple MacBook. I would have to pay a $400 fee if I want the MacBook. The fee is required to cover the higher cost of the Apple MacBook and additional software. The other two laptops are for free.

Which one should I choose and why?

Here is specific info:

Could you tell me WHY? I was planning to get the MacBook. $400 for a Mac seems worth it.

It just seems better all around, and Windows can do Mac software easier than Mac can do Windows software.

The first one sounds better. The T410 is a little bit bulky...and Apple sucks IMO. The Edge also has a better core processor.

Well the T410 has a memory of 8 gigs while the Edge has a max of 4 gigs...but do you really even need 3 gigs...?

The T410 has better graphics than the Edge... but that's not necessary.

The Edge is easier to use and has better wireless capabilities.

The Edge is smaller and easier to carry...

While the Mac looks better and is the thinnest, but Apple gets extremely annoying when it comes to warranty. The Mac also has a much smaller memory unit. But it comes with Wi-Fi.

Hard to choose...but I'd go with the T410.

Wait, where did it say that? I'm reading 4GB.

Also don't all laptops have wifi?

They all have Wi-Fi capability...but with the Mac, it's ensured.

Memory 4GB (2 x 2GB) / 8GB max /

Unless I understood it wrong...

Oh! That means if I add memory right? Alright. So that's one vote for the T410.

@Carig: but they wrote "8GB max"...that means you could install more memory.

BTW obviously the Windows is Windows 7.

You could downgrade to Vista or XP anytime you want though.
You'd also be able to upgrade to 8, yes that's true.

So why is it better than the Mac? (Yes, I know that your family hates Apple).

BTW notice that the first doesn't have a disk drive...so no CDs...

Oh, I didn't realize that. So then the first is totally out of the equation.
Idk, a Windows computer could get MACOS installed, but Macbooks can't get Windows installed.
(Looking at specs as soon as I post this.)

Excuse me, MAC-OS.
I'm not that well at hardware, and I know what I know about software.
To tell you the truth, I would get the Lenovo ThinkPad T410.
It seems better to me, and that's that, but get it with the 'Damage Protection' Plan.
It seems to be able to do more than the Macbook.

Alright Carig. That's two votes for the T410.

But what do they mean by "emphasis on performance over style"?

Also you could install Mac OS on a windows hardware?

Yes, you should be able to.
It shouldn't be as simple as Linux, but you're able to.
& if not there are programs that don't take much space that run Mac (only) programs.
& That term means that just because it looks pretty or is popular doesn't mean you should get it, get what you think you'd work best with, and that would work best with you.
