How do you read & listen to other languages?
Do you hear it and then translate it to English (or vise versa)?

So let's say I said something in Arabic, you would translate it to English in your head, then reply?

Since I know Arabic I wouldn't do that. It'll be like translating English.

Oh, I see. So if it was some language that you're currently learning then you would do that?

I actually use Google translate. There is a Listen and a Read phonetically button, and that helps you in all cases.

when i was learning french i got to the point where i understood the words as though it was an uncommon english word, so it wasn't really translating, i didn't find the words the difficult part of learning language, it was putting them together fluently which i had trouble with.
