I got a job teaching 7th graders (Ages 12-13) math and English, as you guys know. I have 7-8 students in the class. 3 girls, the rest are boys. The girls are easy to control since they don't talk a lot. But it's the boys that cause the problems. Some don't do the work...other talk...that's what makes the job hectic. I was advised that in order to be a "good teacher" I have to shout at them. I try but it doesn't seem to work much. Threatening to kick them out of the class somewhat works.

Do you have any other advice?

Anyway, just be as aggressive as you can ... and if that doesn't work, try the positive reinforcement method ...

Wait, buy them a big chocolate bar. Give it to the girls in front of everyone, and say "You'll get this if you learn how to be silent and listen to what I have to say."
DO NOT scold them or kick them or ANYTHING. Crack jokes VERY OFTEN, almost every time. Give them free periods once in a while, and teach them some games, like "hand cricket", if you know how to play that.
Trust me, it works.

I do give them a 5 minute break in the 2 hours.

IR don't tell us how to raise our children. Capiche?

Hitting is needed. REASONABLE hitting. Not like the stupid parents who harm their children. Thats a te unique used in teaching behavior.

I could easily make fun of your way of teaching behavior by simply talking. IN GENERAL, that won't work.
