actually game play in games has gone down hill in most games, the developers seem more interested in the cosmetic side of things (graphics and sound) and less interested in developing a good plot, or interface, or even just making a lot of short games.
now i know you probably don't want to say all new games are better than all old games, because some games are better than others and the same is true of old games, you cant base your judgements on a hand full of older games you have played, you need to play some classics.
Also grimm, don't generalise when it comes to people, they normally don't appreciate it.
For example, there are those lawyer games now, (ace attorney) its basically 100% text if you want to understand it, they made pictures for the back ground but if you want to understand it, you need to read everything and then you have some multiple choice... In the 80's Text adventures were popular, yeah its like reading a book but, you can type in any word you like and the answers are in your imagination, not in the game, all other games give you the answer in some way, like shooting a panel, using something the game has already told you how to do, or given you. today, the internet kills text adventures so I don't expect you to understand it but that was just one example of a retro gaming type.
