I've never been to NYC, so I don't know. But Oklahomans are very different from Texans, and the two states aren't that far away. So I can imagine New Yorkers having lots of differences.

There is no one southern accent... Alabama and east have their own accent, while Louisiana, Oklahoma, Texas, and New Mexico have their own. There's also a 'country accent' one could mistaken as Southern.
