Ahmed, some rebelled because their spirits didn't break. However, as seen in depressed people, when you have a situation for such a long time, even if you can escape from it, you end up staying in your current condition despite it not being a favorable one.
Plus if you escape, you have nothing. If you're a slave, at least your owner makes sure you are well-fed.
