Through lies and trade, the clutches of Imperialism capture a country

I. The British imperialism of Nigeria filled the British purse, and drained Nigeria of wealth.
A. Great Britain got a lot of raw resources from Nigeria that improved it its industrialization. However, the British never invested in important areas in Nigeria to improve it.

B. Nigeria never developed because the British put their investments in mining, trading business services and not transportations and communications.

C. “In spite of claims that colonialism transformed the economy in the direction of progress, available evidence suggests the contrary…In the case of West Africa, transforming the national economy in ways that might bring about progress was utterly in contraction with the philosophy of British colonialism” (Badru, 48)

D. The British ignored the development of the Nigerian rural production and instead focused on rapid urbanization, so that they would reap more money.

II. British Imperialism wiped centuries of Nigerian culture.
A. The British imperialists spread Christianity when they went to Nigeria.
1. Christianity replaced the traditional Ibu religion that was in Nigeria. Today many Nigerians are Christians.

B. The British introduced the English language to the Nigerians, replacing their traditional language
1. Today English is the official language of Nigeria

C. Women got more freedoms due to British imperialism.
1. Imperialism broke the grasp of men that they had over women.

III.Official British Lies to please the British Public
