    First Math Test Empty First Math Test

    Post by Ahmed Fri Sep 25, 2009 6:49 pm

    I took my first math test yesterday. I got it back today from my teacher graded. I failed it. I got a 59/100. Yet.....

    I am not really mad or upset. Mellow

    After I got my etst grade, I asked the people around me and they said they got 28/100,8/100, 35/100....

    Also my math teacher said "The person that got the highets grade in this class got a 74". "The Lowest person got a 1"

    The person who got a 1/100 sits right netx to me by the way.

    SO...this must mean that I did amazingly well lol

    We are having another test next wednsday.

    And by the way I know some students whom had him last year and they siad that he is the hardest math teacher in the school.

    A sample of his questions from the test, just in case someone wants to solve:

    Factor x^4+4y^4
    Factor 4p^2-4q^2+4qr-r^2
    Solve for x: 2^x+2^-x=17/4

    No they aren't.

    Tests are worth 90% of your grade in his class. So right now I am failing.

    Read about him:

    He is Indian BTW, maybe that's why he is incredible in math(?)

    Remember a member animealex? He got a 15/100 in Spanish. I took my math test a couple of days ago, but didn't get it back yet.

    i have a fantastic psychology teacher now, its incredible just how good he is at teaching, he does stuff which is not hard for other teachers to do but they don't

    some of his methods are...

    colour coding Hand-outs so its easier to revise sections.
    recapping important bits of the lesson at the end of it in a quiz, and then again at the start of the next lesson.
    if your attention is drifting he shouts out your name to bring your focus back to him.

    That's cool Steve.

    And no Sayf, I am the only one here that goes to my school. And BTW he won't do anything about it. So far I am on the failing line in his class. I have a class average of 63 which gets round to a 65. (Lower than a 65 is failing). The higehest perosn in the class has an average of 75.

    The rest of the class is failing.

    He is giving us another test this wednsday.

    Sucks for you man, I have no idea how to even start doing those and I'm in Algebra 2 right now. Next year I'm going to have Pre-Calc and Geometry though Mellow

    So I guess it'd help to know how to solve those problems

    Er, wait, isn't the last one 4=17/4?
    Or maybe 16=-17 then you subtract 16 from -17 to get 33 or the other way around and get -33.

    I figure it's like x and -x make -1 so you get 2+2=-17/4 so you add 2 and 2 to get 4, multipy those by 4 to get 16=-17

    lucky you, and as for the shouting part I think that's his best quality! most teachers don't care if i sleep in class but last year i got a tun of "hard donkeys" that really made me pay attention and get to where i am today! (witch is most of the time the smartest person in class because i know all this stuff already >.>)

    Well of course you wouldn't know because I'm in Pre-Cal

    And no flame, those are all wrong answers that you gave.

    He could. Nothing could stop him. All that will happen to him is that he will be on probation.

    Crap Mellow

    And I doubt that at the end half the class will fail. If they do, then the school will know they need another teacher and you guys will get screwwwedd.

    Also, what is the answer?

    2^x+2^-x=17/4
    2^x+1/2^x=17/4

    Let 2^x=w

    (w)+1/(w)=17/4

    LCD:4w
    Multiply everything out by LCD.

    4w^2+4=17w
    4w^2-17w+4=0
    (4w-1)(w-4)=0
    w=1/4
    w=4

    2^x=1/4
    2^x=2^-2
    x=-2

    2^x=4
    2^x=2^2
    x=2

    x=-2,2

    BTW I understand all my mistakes on the test now and know how to solve all the questions I got wrong. I just solved this question without looking at the answer for more practice.

    Hopefully I will do good on tomorrow's test. Inshallah.

    I am a freaking retard. Fudge! My math teacher made a "surprise" today and it turned out that exam #2 is the same exact exam, as exam #1 (that I failed). I freaking got 2 wrong -_____________________________________-. I messed up on the last bit of 2 questions and hence they are both completely wrong (no partial credit).

    So I am guessing I will get a 88 on this second test. This would raise my average from a 65 to a 70 on the report card Sad.

    These are not the grades that I want college to see.
