Re: The great debate
Think of it this way, Ahmed. The universe is infinite, correct? So because of the lack (or not so much) of ways that molecules can be arranged, they have to be out there, somewhere.

Re: The great debate
They probably don't. Scientists have been trying desperately for decades now to even find a tiny living bacteria...however, it was in vain.

we've come into contact with less than a percent of the universe ... considering the universes incredible vastness and how much we've explored, the chances that aliens exist are pretty good ...

Re: The great debate
We are now bringing the extraterrestrial debate to an end with a majority in favor of it. because religion is a touchy topic we will skip it and move on to physical abuse of children, we will also widen the view to parents hitting and siblings. Ahmed you may make the first post withing 15 hr's of this post or it is open to the public

Re: The great debate
Pried I think you should give more time to the debate...but since it's your topic...Blah 0.0
-------------------------
Parent's hitting their children is not abuse. It's a way of teaching them manners and letting them know they are wrong.
BTW by "hitting" I mean hit and not bleeding or losing a limb or so.

Re: The great debate
Hitting your kids teaches them manners? How? It teaches them only violence. To solve their problems with violence. I don't think any parent should hit their child, there are much better, safer, and more constructive punishments.

Re: The great debate
I agree with Ahmed abuse is when a parent cuts off a finger, scars them with a knife or (I hate to say this) have sexual intercourse. Hitting like Ahmed describes it however, teaches a child discipline and prevents them from repeating mistakes in the future.

Re: The great debate
Hmm... Forgetting to say "thank you" or punching someone that offends you...? I'd pick the bad manners. It's much easier to fix than a violent lifestyle.

Re: The great debate
Well I meant in things that deserve a hit, should a child get hit. Forgetting to say thank you does not deserve a hit. Hitting a sibling, does deserve a hit, or saying a serious lie.
Fang you aren't teaching them violence by hitting them. You are telling them that what they did was very bad.
BTW hitting should be for young kids 5?-11? ...something like that. When kids get older I think giving them a punishment like no video games or whatever well give them the message better. Unless of course, if what they did was extremely bad. Then they deserve to get a whipping

Re: The great debate
it's a simply strategy relay, Make the child fear you and they will be obeisant even later in life. A teacher hitting a child is different, it teaches them to fear the school system hurting the ability to interact and learn.

A teacher hitting a student should never happen! A parent hitting his/her child is ok.

If you fear people, then you'll either be very antisocial, or react to others' actions with violence

Re: The great debate
I don't think you should do it too much though... it may lead to a psychotic behavior or mental illness when you're a adult.

Most school bullies are mean due to violence from their early childhood. Their violence escelates as they grow up.

Yes, violence from other kids or video games, make them so. Not being displined by their parents.

Re: The great debate
first of all, I'd like to see proof that physically disciplining your children will cause them to behave violently towards others ... I doubt there is a correlation ... this type of punishment is sometimes needed (as i mentioned earlier), otherwise children will lack respect and become spoiled ...
