Today I downloaded the New Xbox Experience (NXE). I was not that
impressed. For one it told me 20 different numbers for the "approximate
time to download", ranging from 33-98 minutes, yea an hour and a half?
Pathetic. It took in reality about an hour and 15 minutes, which is
rather sad for something "new". Oh and did I mention it froze and gave
me a black screen for 5 minutes with no error notice? I had to restart
the console to actually see the NXE.....
Okay, so now I start
looking through the dashboard. Everything flows nice and looks pretty,
I created my avatar with ease and then my friend wanted me to go join
his party. I agree and apparently I must be a gold member to be in a
party.....are you kidding me Microsoft?
Now I am parentally
controlled on XBL (Xbox Live) and can't even add friends without a
password. Hey no problem, well 'cept there is no point to gold for me
because I can only talk to my friends (another block, but I can't argue
with my parents). How many friends do I have? 3/4 (need password to
accept friend invite) and they're all people I know IRL.
But in
order to chat with all my friends at one time in a party I have to be
gold....what was the point of downloading the NXE for me?
All I
got was an avatar, shiny new screen, and yea....that's it. All I wanted
was the party feature, which I saw a video on at the xbox website. But
of course, because I don't pay microsoft, I'm still forced to use
private chat, with only one person at a time, while my friends (who
don't have any blocks, note why they're gold) have fun with their new
features.
None of the good features are for silver members in
this NXE. I find that unfair, all I want is the party feature, a bloody
chat room is too much to ask for?
Gold is useless to me, as I can only talk to my friends and in order to
add friends my dad needs to put in his password, which requires a
moment of his time, hard to get for something rather meaningless.
Since
I can only talk to my friends, I can't play games like CoD4, Gears or
any other game online because usually they require you to be able to
talk to your team, which I cannot do. It ruins the fun. Sure I can play
with my friends, but only 5 people I know have XBL and are willing to
give me their gamertag......games mentioned above have 16 player maps,
so more than half the people I still wouldn't be able to communicate
with.
