FPS is usually good... But I much prefer adventure.

right now i think the mmorpg world and the FPS are colliding for top of the charts but with the decreasing popularity in WW2 games MMORPG may take the top

MMORPG might become more popular than FPS... But you have to remember how many people play Halo 3.

i think MMORPGs have had their biggest impact, the number of wow players is not going to change as dramatically as it already has.
i don't see it as a competitor to other genres but i think its a target other developers are trying to hit, for example MAG (massive action game) is an fps capable of 256 players in a match, RPG elements are becoming more common than ever in games, whether your leveling up cards in battle forge, unlocking items in team fortress 2 or even competing for the tallest tower in world of goo.

As i see it, MMORPGs will become niche with smaller and smaller groups playing them and a lot of (should be new) genres will merge with the mmo genre.

I find it funny how you talked about MMORPGs and didn't mention "Run Escape"

Theres also an online Fallout game in the works, so both sides may collide one day. Not to mention the Stargate Worlds game as well.
