Beard
Yeah so the barber shaped up my beard like 2 weeks ago and I tried fixing it up myself and afterwards I noticed that one side didn't exactly match the other ... plus for some strange reason my left side has better growth than my right ... so what should I do? Just shave it off and try again or keep messing with it?

Re: Beard
I think that if you keep messing it can be really 'messed up' so perhaps the safest bet would be starting over.

Re: Beard
Its Sayf and his beard again
Sayf I don't think that Steve even has a beard.
Once I have a beard I will keep it...its a sign of being a man!
(Will you shave off the mustach though? )
--------------------------------------------------------
My advice is to keep it natural, stop "shapping" it and it will look fine.

Nah, it doesn't look right if I don't shape it and trim it because of the way it grows ... and I'll never shave my mustache, I did it once in the 9th grade I think and looked like a moron for 2 weeks lol ... I basically did what Hassan said and shaved it off (just the cheeks and the sideburns anyway, not the chin) and my face feels wierd now
Steve said he had a beard before so I'll tkae his word for it ... this was back when mine hardly grew lol

No its not, Rasoolullah (sa) and the Sahabah (ra) took care of their beards through regular maintenance ... besides, the beard is recognized as what grows on your face so you can remove the hair that grows on your neck (which is what I do when I "shape" it) ... and you're supposed to trim your mustache so it doesn't cover your lip, not shave it off completely ..

Re: Beard
Yes, maintaing it as in cleaning it and taking care of it. But you want to shape it.
Definition of beard: "The beard (Arabic: liyah) is defined as the hair which grows on the cheeks and the jaws. It includes the hair of the temples, the growth underneath the lower lip, the hair of the chin, and the hair that grows on the lower side of the jaws. "
Little story concerning this case:

Little story concerning this case:
Shaving the beard is a disobedience to Allaah ta'ala. The ruler of Yemen, appointed by the Persian emperor Kisraa, sent two envoys to the Messenger sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam to summon him. When they came into his presence, he noticed that they had shaved their beards and grew their moustaches. He hated to look at them (because of their odd appearance) and he said: Woe be to you, who told you to do so? They replied: "Our lord! (referring to Kisraa.)" The Messenger sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam then said: But my Lord, may He be exalted and glorified, has commanded me to leave alone my beard and to trim my moustache. [Recorded by Ibn Jarra-abar, and judged to be Hasan (good) by al-Albaanee.]

Re: Beard
lol I know bro, did you even read what I wrote in the paranthesis? By shaping I mean shaving the hair on the neck (and ocassionaly outlining the sideburns and the hair on the cheaks to make it look neat, which is what I was doing when I messed it up) which is not part of the beard ..

Re: Beard
As far as I know, if you are growing a full beard, Islam says that you can cut after the length of your fist.

Well Hadhrat Abullah ibn Umar (ra) and some other companions (ra) would trim his beard if it went pass the length of fist, meaning the he would hold his beard in his fist and cut off whatever went beyond the length of his fist ...

thats not what he meant lol

Bro the hair that grows on your face is the beard (lihyah), the hair that grows on your neck is not part of the beard .. most if not all of the fuqaha believe this (one specific case being Imam Ahmad [rh]) ... and there is nothing wrong with trimming the edges of the beard either as long as it doesn't effect the total length of it ..

Re: Beard
I meant that you can take your beard in a fist (sorry about the confusion) and cut the part below it, as in the minimum length of the beard should be a fist's length.
