Is there any way around the foreign language reqirment and still go to college/university?

If not, is there a way to easily get through a semester of ASL or anything else that you can know to get the requirment.

I've already taken a semester of ASL, but the 1st week of Intermediate ASL I was like WOW I can't do this, but it looks like I have to to get into college/university by next fall.

Actually, i find it fair, you most likely will need to speak a 2nd language sometime in your life and school is a good way to learn it (especially when you have an awesome teacher )

No, you must pass your F.L. regents (If you are from NY) to get a high school diploma.

I take Spanish (Currently level 2 of of 4)

And I guess Spanish will help me in my job later on since there are a lot of Spanish speaking people in the US...

Actually Pried, I use the 2nd language almost everyday. Not only in class but also in the day to day things; while shopping, rarely at the library, and stuff. I can understand that some of us do not really want it, but is not there, overall (as in further in life) more to gain than lose by a second language?

Well it would be more enjoyable, if they didn't give it a grade. Like you just go and learn and you decide weather you wnat to learn it or not.

Yeah, I had a really bad Spanish teacher Softmore that scared me into taking ASL at community college some how.

You only need a foreign language if your doing a carrer with foreign language or have coworkers that speak another language that you hae to talk with so why not take it when you need it.

Here in CA you need 2 years of foreign language to get into college (not to get high school diploma).

It would be a lot more enjoyable without a grade because then I wouldn't hae to worry about failing it.

Any suggtions to make taking Intermediate ASL easier, becuase it looks like I have to take it (stupid requirment people).

Well, I had a math teacher that made me hate myself by the end of the day...so I would suggest to make the book your "teacher" and imagine your teacher that he/she's someone that you just need to go to for 40 minutes...

I have to see him for 3 hours (6pm-9pm) on Thursday nights. I'm fine with the teacher; it could be nice if he spoke though. It's that I hate the subject and knowing if I don't pass it I won't get to college in the fall.

Force yourself to like the subject for just a year...

your not gonna fail it, just work really hard for a year, languages are always the toughest subjects IMO

Chemistry Labs are IMO...this year I really had a rough start with it. My spanish class is a little njoyable because I have an idiot at my table that makes jokes

It's a semester at community colleges. I am trying to like it,but I can't get past the fact that If I don't pass it my life will be ruined. Do you know how hard community college classes are? I like chemistry 100 times better than ASL.

No I don't and look at it this way.

If your life is not be ruined, then you passed it- Some of the math logic I have been learning all week

But really, just try your best and get these depressing thoughts out of your mind

omg language are the most "f'd" up subjects their is, it is soooo subjective and the teachers can give you whatever they want

yeah, I hate foreign language requirment. Its the only thing in my way from going staight into a 4 year college.
