Now that the olympics are over, do you guys think that for China, the closing ceremony was the end of the beginning to open its door, or would it just go back to isolated corners.

Re: The end of the beginning?
Well JJ, China has always isolated itself, I don't think a game will change that...

Re: The end of the beginning?
I am kind of in the middle, leaning towards opening doors. Ahmed, this was not just a game. It was a whole presentation of China's wealth, industry, modernity, and the eagerness to 'claim its position in the political world'. This cannot be achieved by closing the doors again. Basically, the country which spent more than 40 billion dollars on these splendid Olympiads would, very rarely, just let their earned position go. (Afterall, they are World champions by the Gold medal number and second in the total count).

Re: The end of the beginning?
That's my question: The games are over, but what's next for China? Beijing, which saw extreme transformation last seven years, is a world class city, very much like NYC or London (in terms of being a metropolitian area). I think China is on the way forward...
Let's wait and watch!

Re: The end of the beginning?
There's much doubt actually, China may try to open it's door but I
think the rest of the world will close them after they look back at
China's human rights record
