Well in a way yes the storyline was pretty much screwed by the time the third installment was released. The motives for Venom's enmity towards Spiderman are laughable, to say the least. Plus in the comics Venom had WAY more muscle tissue and had a greater impact on Spiderman's vigilante justice. In the movie he was the most puny out of all of Spiderman's foes.
BUT, it is possible to bring venom back. So we can't rush to conclusions and claim the storyline was demolished. Remember when Spiderman threw the bomb at the symbiote and Eddie jumped in? Yeah well there was no blood and guts was there! Maybe that douchebag Raimi can fit in an extension to this climax like saying Eddie was teleported to another dimension by aliens or something like that
