    Selective Service Empty Selective Service

Post by Ahmed Tue Jan 11, 2011 5:36 pm

In order to apply to FAFSA (all college students do for Financial Aid), I must send my info to selective service (The US army). So in case a draft is made, you COULD be taken.

If you choose not to, you will get no financial aid and cant work in federal jobs.

I personally can't ever join the US army...complete opposition to my believes. I read somewhere before that I should send them my info but at the same time write down my believes to them and send it to them. So if a draft is done in my 18-25 lifetime I could indicate to my letter that I sent them that I cant be drafted.

    There is, however this:
In the current registration system a man cannot indicate that he is a conscientious objector (CO) to war when registering, but he can make such a claim when being drafted. Some men choose to write on the registration card "I am a conscientious objector to war" to document their conviction, even though the government will not have such a classification until there is a draft. Several religious, nonsectarian, and secular organizations allow conscientious objectors to file a written record stating their beliefs.

I'm filing it online though, so I can't write that.

Interestingly, also non-citizens have to sign up for it if they want financial aid.

    This is good for me!

I have the US does no new war till after I'm 25 years old.

@Craig: I need it to go to college.

If there is a draft people don't renounce their citizenship for the sake of dodging the draft.
