This is a hard one but if you think of it scientifically, the egg. The chicken has feathered so it couldn't be born as a chicken. It had to be an egg. The egg, on the other hand, could be laid by an animal close to a chicken, but not exactly the same. It's a simple mutation.

Well actually it would make sense that is is the chicken, since the egg needs a certain warmth to hatch it up...that warmth is from it's mother's.

As I said, the mother does not have to be a chicken. It could be a close relative of a chicken (some other bird.) It's because of evolution

I would guess at egg, simply because you can change an egg overtime or due to a drastic environmental change but you cannot change an animal in their lifetime (and we are talking 1000 years ago or something!)

Did anyone know that this "debate" was debated by the Ancient Greeks, and they kept on arguing till the enmeny went into Athens and conquered them?

Also it must be the chicken becasue put the same logic with a mammal, like a cat. The organism must come first.

The way I see it, you are looking at it from a religious point of view. That's perfectly fine by me, but I look at it scientifically as I am not religious

ok, listen. An egg s basically what leads to the chicken. If you had the chicken first, you would already had an egg for that chicken. As I said above, i think that a mutation in an egg, let's say a turkey's, or an ostrich's, God knows, happened which gave us the chicken. (yummy)
